Google Launches Social Networking Service

Today, Google is rolling out a new social networking service called Buzz. The service is tightly integrated into Google's popular Gmail product. The service allows Gmail users to post Facebook style status updates, links, images and videos and integrates with third party sites like Twitter, Picassa, Blogger and Flickr.

So far, Google Buzz seems clean and fast with a handful of solid features. Whenever a user comments on one of my posts, it shows up right in my Gmail inbox. Google also allows you to share posts via email or direct link, which is something that I feel is seriously lacking in Facebook. My initial impression is that this will be a welcome change to some of the shortcomings of Facebook, but we'll have to wait until more users start using the service for an official diagnosis.

In order to start using Google Buzz, just log into your Gmail account. You should see a Buzz link right below your inbox link on the left hand side. If it's not there, just wait a bit... you should see it shortly.
