Avoid Bad Practices: Hold on to your Rankings
Your website's keyword rankings on the various Internet search engines such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo are just as vital an element as any other aspect of your business. Your marketing, branding, and prominence in your field on the Internet is important in upholding dominance in your specific niche. There are numerous methods to improving your website's popularity. Some methods will appear to work great in the short term but in the long term you may get blacklisted or simply dropped from the ranks. It is important to understand what methods have proved to be faulty and costly as getting removed from a search engine blacklist is not an easy task to reverse.
In the beginning the search engine algorithms were fairly prone to loopholes and less than ethical firms took advantage of these holes. At first the clients of these firms saw immediate results but as the search engine algorithms picked up on these tactics, many of these people's websites including the ill advised became blacklisted and/or dropped in rank in the search engines index.
The bad news in all this is that some high quality, completely ethical websites are being mistaken for these SEO criminals. It is important to understand that many of these methods are not as complex as you might think. Your web developer, regardless of how "senior" he may be might not be aware of certain design methods and coding implementations that may prevent your website from being indexed properly and even cause your site to be barred from the search engine index.
Your page may be in danger of being caught up in the "spam" net and tossed from a search engine's index, even though you have done nothing to deserve such harsh treatment. But there are things you can do - and things you should be sure NOT to do - which will prevent this kind of misperception. It is important to have someone or some company on your side to help interpret your website and guide you in the right direction for long term growth. Short term tactics may look good to you at first but they can destroy your web presence when the bubble pops.
