Active Server Pages (ASP)

Active Server Pages abbreviated as ASP is Microsoft's server-side script engine for dynamically-generated web pages. It is marketed as an add-on feature to Internet Information Services. Programming ASP websites is made simpler by various built-in objects. Each object corresponds to a group of frequently-used functionality helpful for creating dynamic web pages. In ASP 2.0 there are six such built-in objects: Application, ASPError, Request, Response, Server, and Session. Session, for example, is a cookie-based session object that retains variables from page to page.

AltaVista (AV)

The name AltaVista (AV) refers both to an Internet search engine company and to that company's search engine product.

AltaVista was started by Digital Equipment Corporation employee volunteers who were trying to offer services to make finding files on the public network easier. AltaVista was launched public as an internet search engine on December 15, 1995 at http://altavista.digital.com.

ASCII codes signify text in computers, communications equipment, and other devices that work with text. Most modern character encodings supports many more characters and have a historical basis in ASCII.
