Digital Versatile Disk (DVD)
DVD is the media used for the storage of the data. Mainly the DVD is used to store any kind of video or data. The DVDs are similar as of the CDs or Compact Disks but the most important and distant thing is that the storage capacity of the DVDs is nearly six times larger that that of a CD.
There are different types of DVDs available. One of them is DVD ROM data can only read and saving any new data again is not possible. In the DVD R the data can be written once and then it is same as the DVD ROM. In the DVD RW or DVD Re-writable the data can be re-written many times.
Earlier two devices were made for the data storage. Out of two; one Multimedia was suitable to work on Sony or Philips and the other was for Hitachi, Toshiba and many such similar programs. Later on a new concept of EEMPlus was taken into consideration and the major change they had brought was that the drive was chosen as it has a great flexibility if the disc is damaged by fingerprints or any kind of scratches. After many more modifications the DVD was now easily acceptable by every Company and gave a good result. The total capacity volume differs on the basis of the size of the DVD. It may be 12cm to 8 cm, based on the cm the GB or Giga Byte of the DVD is decided. The standard size of a DVD is of 12 cm and the smaller size is that of 8 cm and is known as Mini-DVD; same size is applicable in CD.
The wavelength used in DVD is 650 nm and its 780 nm in CD. The writing speed in DVD ranges between 18x to 20x and have nearly 18 to 20 times of speed. The DVD-R allows dual layer recording which allows to store up to 8.5GB data on either side. There are different functions through which the data is stored in the DVD. The programs should be compatible with that of the file to be saved. For e.g.: if the video is saved in the disc it will either saved on MPEG or any other similar program and in the same way the function is selected either for the text or audio file.
As time goes by many new technologies are upgrading the system of the DVD to be used in an effective and efficient manner which may be helpful for every user.
