Domain Name System (DNS)

Everyone is using internet now a days and each one of them have a different IP address, which is the code for the internet system. Instead of learning 1.283.475.2 one has to remember www.abc.com. The concept of DNS is similar to that of a person’s name; everyone has a different name similarly every internet connection has a different IP address. Using the number system is the earlier method and with the advent of the easy conversion of the IP address to the site address it is much easier for the user to use the internet services. With the translation of the IP address or the numbers to the website address it allows the user to read the information which an internet user has to have. Different IP address has authority for mapping the domain systems to the IP address.

The domain name consists of different names; it’s just like a tree. Each leaf is associated with one or the other resource name. It also has certain zones which help the numbers to be translated easily in the words. The domain name is divided into two major parts; Top-level domain and Sub domain. The subdivision can go down to 127 subdivisions. It also has a host name which is more associated with the IP address used. The DNS is connected globally with the number of root computers which transfer the information to the respective IP address. A simple task of delivering the email to the desired address is also one of the important areas where DNS functions effectively. To cover up each domain; multiple DNS services are considered important. Any change made in one DNS server can be easily reflected on all the other servers. The sub-domain used indicates its area of application. For e.g. if the website address ends with .eu (Europe) or .fr (France) or .cn (China); it specifies the country in which the particular DNS is used.

There is a law namely Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act or Truth in Domain Names Act related to the copyright license. The users have to register for the domain name as the sole trademark users or the owner of the particular domain.

Apart from the positive aspects there is one major limitation of this act; if there is any kind of dispute on the domain name and the owner has less interest than the opposite party; if the owner tries to exchange the domain name in turn of a reimbursement than the offer can comprise as acting in wrong conviction to mark the profit and because of this the disputes are harder to resolve.
